It's one of the very oldest towns in America! Four of the signers of The Declaration of Independence had homes here. It was established in 1649. It was later renamed for Princess Anne, then the heir apparent to the British throne. It has many (around 1500) Georgian style of colonial buildings.
It is the state capital, home to the US Naval Academy, and St.John's College, established in 1696!
This was taken after lunch on my walk back to the stadium, weather .. changed!
I walked around the harbor area and the main shops and restaurants that line Main Street. I decided to have lunch at O'Brien's Tavern, originally built in 1774 as the Rose & Crown. Selected a table outside on the sidewalk and started with a pint of 'Loose Lips'. As I was eating my fish & chips, a parade started up. Wow, just for me ? Here's the US Naval Academy Band :
Turned out, that this parade was the Martin Luther King parade.
After lunch, I made the 'long' trek back to the stadium, following hundreds of sharply dressed Midshipmen. At the stadium I ran into my airbnb hosts! Wow, what a surprise. I guess my excited talk about going to the game piqued their interest and Vania bought tickets on-line. It was their very first lacrosse game! We sat together to watch the 2nd half of the Army-Navy women's game and all of the men's game. Here's some pic's :
The Navy women won 21-8, while the Navy men lost 9-8 in overtime! What a fun day discovering Annapolis and watching college hockey, especially this long time rivalry, this was the 100th time Army & Navy played each other.
Whew! Time for some rest. Tomorrow I travel to Baltimore to watch Johns Hopkins University vs. Ohio State in men's lacrosse. The fun continues.
Take care.
