Day-14 .. Annapolis & Lacrosse [again!]

I planned this day for lacrosse to be able to watch Syracuse, a highly-ranked team with a rich history of playing lacrosse.   But, after my first visit a week ago, it became apparent that the feature of these visits was the town.   What a rich history!  And the town has done a remarkable job in preserving these many 1700's and 1800's homes.    The game was at 5pm so I had plenty of time to explore.   I brought my bike.    Weather was dark and drizzly to begin with.

I parked at the Navy-Marine Memorial Stadium parking lot and took off my bike and started downtown.   Many cobble-stoned and bricked streets.   Rode right by the governor's mansion :

Remember, Annapolis is the state's capital.   And, it served as our nation's capitol in 1783 & 1784.

They've done a good job in making all of the state buildings blend in :

The government buildings are adjacent to narrow roads that lead downtown.

Which all lead to the water ..

Annapolis was a very busy port in it's day.   Unfortunately, it was a port of entry for many many slave ships.

It was time to head over to the Naval Academy and visit their museum.  I had to chain-up my bike at the main gate and hiked through the grounds.   On the way I noticed similar officer's quarters as those found on Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.

The sun was starting to come out.  On to the museum.

2nd floor housed many ship models.  This one, and it's display case was built 300 yrs. ago!

They also had a large room dedicated to the story of one of their midshipmen.

He was quite the prankster in class.   His series of outrageous pranks became legend, endearing him to generations of midshipmen who admired his rebellion against Academy rules.   His story is a remarkable one, ending as founder and superintendent of a new Chinese Naval Academy serving the Dowager Empress of China.

It was time to go outside and start heading to the game.   It was sunny and I found a few more photo opportunities.

These are homes from the late 1700s !       At the stadium, I had to take a picture of the F/A-18 Hornet Blue Angels' jet ..

shaking hands prior to the game,  Navy in white, Syracuse in orange

Syracuse slaughtered the Navy, 18-9.  The Orange are ranked No.9 in the country.

My stay in the Washington DC area is drawing to a close.   One more scrumptious breakfast with my airbnb SUPER hosts, Vania & Bruce, and then I'll head South to Weldon & Violy in Chesapeake.    I hope to stop at a few Civil War battlefields along the way.

Happy Easter!     Christ has risen!
